Safeguarding
We commit to keeping our students and families safe and supported.
Safeguarding is the number one priority of everyone at Reach Academy Feltham. We ensure regular and rigorous training and engage with the most challenging topics because we want to be able to walk alongside all of our families, should they need this level of support.
At Reach Academy Feltham there is a vast range of support available to pupils during their time with us. We strive to ensure all pupils are happy, healthy and safe and achieving their full potential.
A supportive practice is embedded throughout Reach Academy Feltham; we ensure every child is supported and encouraged to be the best they can be at every level; from making sure they are organised for their lessons and the day ahead, or supporting them in making sure they are taking the right options and choices for Year 10. Our pupil support provision also offers a number of interventions for pupils who need additional support:
- 1-1 support to help them overcome personal difficulties;
- Small group work sessions to proactively support and develop social skills, confidence and resilience; and
- An ‘open door’ service which allows students to discuss worries or difficulties they are experiencing.
Safeguarding concerns
At Reach Academy Feltham, we strive to make sure all our students are safe in school, at home, online and in the community. It is every staff member’s responsibility to ensure our students are safe and secure and to promote their personal safety and well-being. If a child makes a disclosure of any form of abuse we have a legal duty to act upon this information. It is standard procedure to inform the local authority of this disclosure and to seek advice and guidance. It is best practice to inform parents and carers of the disclosure, however in some instances we are advised not to by children’s services and they will contact parents/carers directly. We appreciate that this can be a particularly difficult circumstance to deal with and we commit to support families as a unit to ensure everyone is safe and happy.
Please see our safeguarding policy for more detailed information on our procedures.

Relationships matter
We build strong relationships with pupils and their parents. This begins with a home visit, which enables us to have a breadth of information about every child in our school. These relationships, founded on trust, allow for open and honest dialogue and we make it clear with parents that we are a team, working together to have challenging conversations.
- We train staff to a high standard and are consistently reflecting on what we do.
- We offer a broad range of interventions and engage with external parties to do this e.g. Place2Be, School Family Group, Family Links.
Place2Be
Our Place2Be service provides mental health support through one -to-one counselling using tried and tested methods backed by research. A drop-in service is also available.
Tracking
We use CPOMs to report concerns and track everything so as not to miss anything which may impact every single child being able to enjoy a life of choice and opportunity.
Support for families
We have employed a Family Support Worker since the school opened in 2012 and have been instrumental in initiating the SHEL programme (School-Home Engagement Leads) across Hounslow. We also designed and lead the CAPP (Community Action Partnership Panel) which brings together cross-school safeguarding teams and police to ensure better joint working and problem-solving.
